U.S. government offers
funding for biomass fuel research
June 14 The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy are making a combined $18 million in grants available for research and development of biomass-based fuels. The two government agencies are issuing grant solicitations for projects aimed at increasing the availability of alternative and renewable fuels. The USDA will make $14 million available and the Energy Department will make $4 million available in fiscal year 2007. Maximum award amounts will not exceed $1 million. Eligible applicants include state and federal research agencies, national laboratories, private-sector groups and nonprofit organizations.
