Wind farm powers
Pennsylvania homes
June 20 Pennsylvania Gov. Edward G. Rendell switched on the wind turbines of the state´s newest wind farm, which will produce enough electricity to power 6,500 homes, during a June 19 ceremony. Community Energy Inc. developed the Locust Ridge Wind Farm in Schuylkill County, Pa. Its affiliate, Madrid, Spain-based Iberdrola, will own and operate the project. The wind farm consists of 13 Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica wind turbines and will produce 68,328 megawatt-hours of electricity annually. PPL Corp., an Allentown, Pa.-based utility, has committed to buy the electricity the project produces through a 20-year power purchase agreement.
