Chinese farmers have access to renewable and clean energy
09-03-07
Millions of farmers can now use renewable and clean energy in Guizhou.
By the end of 2006, 980,000 methane pits have been built in Guizhou
province, about 20 times than that in 2000.
Currently, over a half of Guizhou rural households still burn firewood
and straw as household fuel.
Over 7 mm rural households in Guizhou consume firewood more than 24 mm tons
annually, while the supply only 3 mm tons.
According to Guizhou development plan, during 2005 and 2010, 200,000
methane pits will be built annually.
The central government has been attaching great importance on methane-pit
construction, with investment of tens of millions yuan annually during the
9th 5-year period and over hundreds of millions of yuan annually in the
early stage of the 10th 5-year period.
