Japan adopts new basic energy policy11-03-07 A new basic long-term energy policy which calls for promoting
self-dependent petroleum development and expanding nuclear power generation
was approved by the Japanese government. The policy says it is important for Japan to build more nuclear power
facilities and accelerate the development of nuclear fuel recycling systems.
The policy points out the necessity of strengthening the development of the
oil industry, saying that the Japanese government intends to carry out
active high-level diplomacy to facilitate efforts to develop oil.
