Law Seminars International announces a national conference on Energy Development on Tribal Lands July 17-18, Washington, DC
A national two-day comprehensive conference that looks at how tribes can
develop self-sufficient, non-grid power generation and how utility
companies can develop alliances and ventures with tribal entities will
be held July 17 and 18, 2007 in Washington, DC.
Continuing in the Law Seminars International tradition of assembling
tribal energy programs that are pertinent and comprised of top-level
faculty actually involved in policy work and implementation, LSI is
bringing this conference to the legislative doorstep of our nation's
capitol. Joe Shirley, President, Navajo Nation, will open the
conference and discuss energy development and tribal self determination.
Former chair of the Senate Energy Committee, Senator J. Bennett Johnston
(Ret.), will bring tribal leaders, attorneys, industry executives and
agency officials up-to-date on federal policies and key legislation in
the 110th Congress; Thomas W. Sacco, Director, Tribal Energy Program,
U.S. Department of Energy, will provide the latest on funding and
incentives; Carl J. Artman, Assistant Secretary, and Robert Middleton,
Director, Indian Energy/Economic Development, at the US Department of
the Interior, will discuss assistance for tribal energy development; and
the role of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in renewable development
in rural America will be addressed by Tedd Buelow, Acting Native
American Coordinator.
Other members of this distinguished faculty will share strategies for
getting the deals done; finding funding, developing new coal-fired
generation and commercially viable energy technologies based on solar,
wind and geothermal resources.
Here is an opportunity for leading national energy professionals to meet
their peers and hear the latest information on tribal energy
development.
