TORONTO (CP) - Ontario plans to bring dozens of clean-energy megawatts online by 2010 with the construction of North America's largest solar farm and 13 other renewable energy projects.

Energy Minister Dwight Duncan says the solar farm in Sarnia, Ont., will be built by OptiSolar Farms and consist of over one million ground-mounted solar panels. The company will produce 40 megawatts of energy starting in 2010, enough to power about 6,000 homes.

The other projects include two partnerships with First Nations communities, which will produce about 18 megawatts of power.

The government has also given the go ahead to several 10-megawatt wind farms.

The projects fall under the Renewable Standard Offer Program, which means the companies will pay for capital costs and receive a preferential rate for the energy they produce.
