As a resident of Sevier County, I would like to publicly thank the Utah Moms for Clean Air and the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment as they seek a moratorium on construction of new coal-fired power plants in Utah.
A group of citizens in Sevier County called Sevier Citizens for Clean Air and Water, Inc. has been fighting for six years to stop the coal-fired power plant proposed by TDA Foundation or Sevier Power Co. in the narrow valley of Sevier near Sigurd. We've been working to educate our leaders concerning health problems associated with burning coal for electricity within 1.75 miles of 183 homes and in the heart of our farmlands.
It makes no sense to continue entertaining the concept of coal for generating electricity. Why not clean up the existing coal-fired power plants and take any new coal plants out of the equation? Thank you, moms and physicians.
