Four units affected by the fire at Valero's Port Arthur refinery

New York (Platts)--9Nov2007

Several process units at Valero Energy's 325,000 b/d refinery in Port
Arthur, Texas, were affected by the fire early Thursday in the diesel
hydrotreater unit there, the company said.

In a filing late Thursday with the Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality, Valero confirmed that the fire occurred in the hydrotreater, which it
calls a gulf fining unit. But the filing also reported that the refinery's
FCC, an alkylation unit and a sulfur recovery unit had also been affected by
the incident.

The fire at the unit was extinguished on Thursday morning, and Valero
said no injuries were reported. The company did not provide further
information on the damage, throughput or how long it would take to repair the
affected units.
