Japan: Onagawa Nuclear Plant Reactor Undergoes
Emergency Nov 10 - BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific
Tohoku Electric Power Co. shut down urgently the No. 3 reactor at its
Onagawa nuclear power plant in Miyagi Prefecture on Saturday due to a
problem when it resumed power generation after a regular inspection, the
company said.
There was no radioactive leakage due to the problem, which involved a sharp
rise in hydrogen concentration in the pipework for the gaseous waste
disposal system, the company said.
It is the first time Tohoku Electric Power has conducted an emergency manual
shutdown at one of its nuclear plants.
