The Carpinteria, Calif., wind power developer established the Centre of Excellence for Offshore Wind in Blyth, United Kingdom, to develop the turbine. The project will help meet the growing demand for efficient offshore wind energy, said James G.P. Dehlsen, chairman and CEO of Clipper.

Clipper established the project based on the United Kingdomīs governmentīs policy to generate 20 percent of the nationīs electricity from renewable energy, Dehlsen said. European and U.S. renewable energy markets will benefit from the research as well.
