Washington (Platts)--25Sep2007
Renewable energy developer Airtricity on Tuesday said it has signed an
agreement to buy wind turbines with total capacity of 250 MW from GE Energy
for $330 million.
The 1.5 MW turbines will support Airtricity's growth of wind power
projects in Texas, as well as states in the US Midwest and US Northeast,
Airtricity said.
The deal follows Airtricity's strategy of securing turbines well in
advance of project commencement.
"Our growing international reputation and strong funding platform have
enabled us to secure this arrangement with GE and continue to grow at the
aggressive pace we have pursued over the past several years," Airtricity North
America CEO Declan Flanagan said in a statement.
Chicago-based Airtricity North America has completed construction of
projects totaling 124 MW of capacity, with another 460 MW under construction
and 700 MW in the final stage of development backed by firm orders for
turbines to be delivered in 2008 and 2009. It has another 6,500 MW of capacity
on the drawing board in the US and Canada.
