greenhouse guessing Sept. 24 Sun Microsystems Inc. is using its online community building experience to help businesses and organizations calculate, compare and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based Internet technology company launched OpenEco.org, Sept. 24. The Web site is free and open to all organizations, with the only cost being sharing data, either transparently or anonymously, with other participants. The site will allow companies and organizations to benchmark their greenhouse gas emissions against one another and share best practices to meet reduction goals. Ceres, a coalition of investors and environmental groups, is one of the initial participants at OpenEco.org. "Working together drives progress faster than working alone," said Dave Douglas, vice president of eco responsibility at Sun Microsystems. "Sun was built on the philosophy of openness and building communities to solve problems, which we´re now applying to the environment.
