October crude futures on NYMEX opened 11 cents lower at $76.19/barrel.
The contract lost ground on weak unemployment data despite supportive
petroleum fundamentals.
The US unemployment rate was virtually unchanged at 4.6% in August but
non-farm payrolls took an unexpected drop by 4,000, according to data released
by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Heating oil opened 12 points higher at
$2.1380/gal 1.27 cents lower at $1.9590/gal.
