"It is perhaps the most important breakthrough in an international environment negotiation process for at least five or six years. Historic is an often over-used word but not in the case of this agreement made in Montreal. Governments had a golden opportunity to deal with the twin challenges of climate change and protecting the ozone layer and governments took it."
United Nations Environmental Program chief Achim Steiner said. This came after nearly 200 countries agreeing to accelerate the elimination of chemicals that threaten the ozone layer and exacerbate global warming.

"With effect from midnight (2300 GMT) today, Sep 23, 2007, we will commence attacks on installations and abduction of expatriates. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, is committed to the fight for justice and ultimately the emancipation of the people of the Niger Delta ... The government has so far concentrated its resources in bribing the so-called militants, politicians and supposed elders of the Niger Delta."
Nigeria's main rebel group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta said. They resume attacks in response to the arrest of a key leader of the militant group.
