Sen. Barbara Boxer to lead push for water funding

Sept. 17

Senate environment committee chairwoman Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and representatives of the water industry and environmental groups will hold a rally Sept. 18 to call for increased federal funding for clean water infrastructure.

Representatives of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, the Associated General Contractors of America, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Rivers, the Water Environment Federation, and the Natural Resources Defense Council will join Boxer for the rally, to be held at 3 p.m. in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

They will urge the Senate to introduce and pass legislation that would authorize the Clean Water State Revolving Fund at $14 billion over four years and call on the Government Accountability Office to study long-term revenue sources for a clean water trust fund. The money would be used to improve wastewater treatment infrastructure, nonpoint pollution control and watershed management.
