Willard Gibbs, Walther H. Nernst, and Sir Francis Bacon. Contributions by these great minds to the scientific advancement of electrochemistry arrive at the tested fact that the minimum amount of energy required to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water is the sum of work accomplished by applications of electrical, thermal, and any other form of energy applied to accomplish the work of separating hydrogen- and oxygen-characterized ions, electron exchange, nucleation, and collection of separated gases. Therefore it is with best wishes to any and all who endeavor to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water that we urge creative designs, experimentation, and peer reviews of experimental results.
