| Multimillion-dollar Manhattan hotel to be certified
green
Aug. 12
A new $600 million hotel and residential building in Lower Manhattan
expects to be certified as a green building upon completion in 2011.
The structure, called 50 West Street, will have 65 floors and measure
580,000 square feet, said developer Time Equit ies Inc. There will be 240
residential units and 150 hotel and retail units.
The site will include a green roof, water efficient plumbing fixtures,
automated blinds and energy control systems. Demolition waste from
construction will be recycled and construction materials "will be
sustainable and rapidly renewable," the company said.
Time Equities expects the building will achieve certification through the
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program through the U.S. Green
Building Council.
