Feb 18 - Info-Prod Research (Middle East)
The Electricity and Power Sector has finished the study on the establishment
of a giant power line by 220 kilovolt to provide Gaza Strip with electricity
from the Egyptian network after receiving approval of the countries
participating in the electric link project for Arab western and eastern
countries financed by the Islamic Development Bank. Minister of Electricity
and Energy, Dr. Hassan Younes said that Egypt and the Arab countries
participating in the project are keen to join the Palestinian lands,
unlinked to other Arab networks, to the project in order to provide
Palestinian people with electricity. Dr. Mohamed Awad, Head of the Holding
Company for Egypt's Electricity said that this project coincides with the
separation of Gaza electricity network from the Israeli one as a condition
to join the Arab project. He added that the project has achieved a great
success among Arab countries.
