Governors meet in capital, discuss green energy
Feb. 25
The National Governors Associationīs three-day winter meeting in
Washington beginning Feb. 23 included discussions about encouraging green
energy development and the unveiling of a new partnership.
NGA Chairman and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty introduced a Clean Energy
Future Initiative that includes suggestions on how states can encourage
green energy development.
The Association also announced a partnership with Wal-Mart aimed at reducing
energy consumption at state capitol complexes across the country. Under the
agreement, Wal-Mart energy experts will conduct a clean energy audit of as
many as 20 state capitol complexes during 2008 and 2009. Their goal will be
identifying energy efficiency improvements that will offer a return on the
investment within five years.
In addition, the Wal-Mart employees will detail the anticipated cost savings
and carbon dioxide reductions each state could experience by undertaking the
improvements.
The Governors Association also released a guide for states on how to "green"
their fuels and transportation fleets.
