2008 Ground Water Summit Brings Top Scientists And Industry Leaders To Memphis

Westerville, OH — The National Ground Water Association's 2008 Ground Water Summit taking place March 30-April 3 in Memphis features 20 sessions covering the latest in ground water science, technology, and ground water policy.

This 4th annual Ground Water Summit brings together local, national, and international science partners to exchange information on scientific, policy and regulatory issues pertaining to ground water.

Highlights of the 2008 Summit include the Darcy forum, “Carbon Sequestration: Opportunities and Challenges,” and Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer Michael Celia, Ph.D., of Princeton University, who will speak on “Geological Storage as a Carbon Mitigation Option.”

Other Summit features include:

* Keynote speaker Edward Sudicky, Ph.D., University of Waterloo, and NGWA’s 2007 M. King Hubbert Award recipient, who will deliver a talk on “Simulation of Flow and Contaminant Transport in Surface-subsurface Flow Systems in a Fully Integrated Framework”
* Featured speaker Cynthia Barnett, journalist and author of “Mirage”
* Professional development courses in ground water geochemistry, valuing ground water as an economic asset, Karst aquifer characterization modeling and remediation, environmental drilling safety, and geochemical evaluations of metals in ground water
