US agency gives Southeast pipeline permission to cross
wetlands
Washington (Platts)--10Jan2008
The US Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service
has agreed to allow the Southeast Supply Header, a proposed 270-mile, 1.14
Bcf/d pipeline linking gas production in east Texas and north Louisiana to
markets in the US Southeast, to cross seven wetlands the agency manages in
Madison Parish, Louisiana.
In a Federal Register notice published on Thursday, the NRCS said it has
decided to "subordinate its rights" to allow the pipeline to cross
agency-held
conservation easements across the wetlands.
The agency said the pipeline project would create a 50-foot permanent
right of way over 6.7 miles of lands covered by Wetland Reserve Program
easements in Madison Parish. Of the 34,584 acres of wetlands under the
agency's control in the parish, about 74 acres will be affected by the
pipeline, NRCS said.
