Participants in the Peace and Dignity Journey took
the run to honor sacred sites to the Swinomish reservation in Washington
state June 13. Peace and Dignity Journeys take place every four years; this
year's event began May 1 in Eklutna, Alaska, and Tierra del Fuego,
Argentina, and will culminate at the Kuna Nation in Panama City, Panama.
Participants run for six months through hundreds of indigenous communities,
participating in their respective spiritual practices and traditions,
fostering dialogue on the issue of peace and dignity for indigenous peoples,
and modeling their responsibility to the environment, the environment, their
communities and themselves.
