Doubts Over Green Power
Jun 22 - South Wales Evening Post
Householders who sign up to green fuel tariffs may not be getting their
electricity from renewable energy sources, consumer group Energywatch has
said.
It has urged suppliers to come clean on just how green their tariffs are.
The group claims almost all electricity from renewable sources is supplied
to businesses, leaving little for green-thinking householders.
Jonathan Stearn, of Energywatch, said figures from supplier E.On showed only
0.2 per cent of the renewable electricity it supplies to domestic consumers
is from renewable sources.
Mr Stearn said: "If E.On is typical of the industry, domestic consumers have
extremely restricted choices despite their contributions to renewables
development through the pounds10 charge we all pay annually as part of our
bills."
