BE getting 'healthy premium' on low-carbon power

Barcelona (Platts)--28May2008

British Energy Chief Financial Officer Stephen Billingham said Wednesday
the company had achieved "a healthy premium in the early deals" for its
low-carbon power output and "we hope to do better" going forward.

British Energy says it intends to capitalize on its low carbon
credentials and has an evolving strategy in its trading and sales department.

CEO Bill Coley said during the company's financial year-end results
conference with journalists that the company is offering a way of certifying
our low carbon power.

"Take a look at the nature of the product," Coley said. "Nuclear power
has lifetime carbon emissions -- accounting for everything from mining to
waste disposal -- of 5 grams of CO2 per kWh. In contrast, gas power has 400g
of CO2 per kWh, counting power generation only, and coal has 900 grams ofCO2
per kWh, also counting generation only.

"The CO2 content of nuclear power is a very strong positive," Coley said.
