Home Wind Turbines Approved in Carroll County

May 14 - The Daily Record (Baltimore)

Carroll County has become the first jurisdiction in Maryland to allow wind turbines in private yards. County commissioners approved zoning changes allowing the wind energy systems. Towers must be no more than 150 feet tall and no more than two single-tower turbines will be allowed per property. The towers must be as far back from roads as they are tall, plus 20 feet. County permits chief Michael Maring said he knows of about a dozen residents who are interested in turbines. They envision towers between 30 and 80 feet tall because their properties are too small for larger systems.
