Progress Energy Inc. supports federal action to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions in its second report on global climate change.
The report, available at www.progress-energy.com/environment, outlines the
Raleigh, N.C.-based utility´s actions to address climate change and the
challenges of doing so while supplying reliable power. The 2008 Global
Climate Change Report to Shareholders provides a more specific company
position than its first report in 2006.

"The national debate on climate change has now shifted from whether we need
to act to what we need to enact," said Bill Johnson, Progress Energy´s
    chairman, president and CEO.

The company supports federal action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that
includes all sectors of the economy and all major sources of carbon
emissions. Reduction timelines should align with the commercial availability
of pollution control technology, according to the company.
