Four companies join to
commercialize algae production
Four companies have formed a joint venture to commercialize algae production for next generation biofuels. BioProcess Algae LLC is a partnership between Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc., CLARCOR Inc., BioProcessH2O LLC and NTR plc. Green Plains will use technology at its Shenandoah, Iowa, ethanol plant to produce algae from recycled heat, water and carbon dioxide. The joint venture will develop an industrial-scale solution for continuous algae production, said Tim Burns, president of BioProcessH2O. The modular system will allow ethanol producers, as well as other industries that emit carbon dioxide, to produce algae. Contact Waste News reporter Joe Truini at (330) 865-6166 or jtruini@crain.com
