"Expansion of cooperation with non-OPEC [countries], including Russia, will be one of the main topics of the Cairo meeting because at the moment it seems that many non-OPEC countries are trying to compensate the OPEC supply cuts."
Iran's oil minister Gholamhossein Nozari said ahead of OPEC's forthcoming meeting in Cairo on November 29, according to official news agency IRNA.
"It is not the question of [hijacking a VLCC] being easy or difficult. They have managed to do it. If they have taken one, they are going to take more ... They had attempted to board VLCCs in the past and now this has become a reality."
A ship owner in the Middle East warned of more VLCC hijackings after a supertanker owned by Saudi Aramco's chartering arm Vela was seized by pirates more than 450 nautical miles south-east of Mombasa.
