74% of top 100 U.S. companies release sustainability data

Oct. 27

The number of top U.S. companies releasing sustainability data more than doubled between 2005 and 2008, according to audit, tax and advisory services firm KPMG International.

Some 74% of the top 100 companies in the United States, by revenue, published corporate responsibility information this year, either as part of their annual reports or as separate documents, KPMG said.

"With increasing evidence that conducting business responsibly contributes to shareholder value, itīs not surprising that more U.S. companies are highlighting their corporate responsibility efforts," said Eric Israel. He is a managing director and sustainability services leader for the advisory practice of KPMG LLP, the U.S. member firm of KPMG International.
