Navistar unveils new hybrid tractor

Oct. 14

Navistar International Corp. is expanding its line of diesel electric hybrid trucks with the introduction of a new hybrid tractor that can be used by general freight haulers and food and beverage distributors.

The Class 7 tractor can provide from 20% to 25% fuel savings compared with a traditional vehicle on in-city applications, Navistar said.

"Hybrid trucks are the next step in providing expanded fuel efficiency options for customers as they face the new realities of high diesel costs and tough economic conditions," said Steve Guillaume, general manager of the medium truck group at Navistar

The vehicle, called a DuraStar Hybrid, also emits up to 33% less hydrocarbon emissions and 35% less nitrogen oxide emissions than a standard diesel truck, the company said.
