U.S. mayors push for environmentally friendly schools

Oct. 16

Mayors from around the country are joining together to push for creation of environmentally friendly schools.

The new Mayors´ Alliance for Green Schools aims to promote the benefit of such buildings. The group was created in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council and wants to build upon a call for green schools for all children within a generation by the U.S. Conference of Mayors last year.

"With this alliance, we are coming together and reconfirming our promise to the health and learning of our children, and ensuring that future generations are mindful of the importance of protecting our environment," said Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, president of the mayors conference.
