WFES expects “record numbers”


ABU DHABI, UAE, October 27, 2008.

A “record number” of heads of state, business leaders, politicians, investors and exhibitors have confirmed plans to participate in the second annual World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in January.

Masdar CEO, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber says, “We are proud to continue the tradition of hosting some of the world’s leading future energy experts to discuss the need for alternative energy solutions. We are also pleased to inaugurate the first Zayed Future Energy Prize, an award designed to reward innovators and inventors in the field of renewable energy.”

The keynote addresses on 19 January will be by His Royal Highness Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Prince of Orange, and Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway.

Other keynotes include: Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Nobel Laureate, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Zayed Future Energy Prize Jury Chairman; Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner for Energy in the European Commission; Susan Hockfield, President of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); Professor Hermann Requardt, CTO at Siemens; Preston Chiaro from Rio Tinto; and Professor Lord Stern, who will provide with his expert opinion on the economics of climate change.

WFES was founded by Masdar, Abu Dhabi's multi-faceted, multi-billion dollar investment in the development and commercialisation of innovative technologies in renewable, alternative and sustainable energies as well as sustainable design.
