Coalition Launches Clean Energy NOW Campaign
Denver, United States [RenewableEnergyWorld.com]
More than 175 companies and organizations from across the political spectrum have started the Clean Energy NOW campaign, which is calling for Congressional action to extend the federal investment and production tax credits for renewable energy and energy efficiency when the legislators return for the September session. The tax credits are currently set to expire at the end of this year. Components of the Clean Energy NOW campaign
include a letter sent to the leadership of the U.S. Senate and the U.S.
House of Representatives, signed by more than 175 companies and
organizations, urging immediate action to extend the renewable energy and
energy efficiency tax credit.
“More than 100,000 American jobs and US $19 billion in clean energy
investment are at stake,” said Randall Swisher, the
American Wind Energy
Assocation's (AWEA) executive director. “We want Members of Congress
to understand how much is at stake should the tax credits not be extended
in September. Our members and allies will be sharing their sense of
urgency with the nation’s political leaders as they gather here in Denver
and next week in Minneapolis.”
The coalition will have a presence at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. AWEA’s members and staff will be in attendance planning to seek out members of Congress to call attention to the need for renewal of the tax credit. There will also be a 130-foot wind turbine blade from Vestas on display in Denver and Minneapolis, during the conventions, as a symbol of the job impact of wind energy. The Clean Energy NOW has also a letter sent to the leadership of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, signed by more than 175 companies and organizations, urging immediate action to extend the renewable energy and energy efficiency tax credit.
