Japan to Provide Solar Energy Subsidy

Sep 29 - International Herald Tribune

Japan plans to provide subsidies to households that buy solar power systems to promote solar power and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Nikkei business daily said Sunday.

The subsidy of about yen200,000, or $1,887, represents 10 percent of the cost of a standard solar power system. In June, the government set a goal of increasing solar power generation by 10 times from current levels by 2020 and 40 times by 2030. That would be equivalent to having roughly 80 percent of newly built homes equipped with solar power systems, Nikkei reported.
