US$60.9bn into US wind in 2013


WELLESLEY, MASSACHUSETTS, USA, September 12, 2008. The US domestic market for wind turbine components and systems will be worth US$60.9 billion in 2013, according to a market research report from BCC Research.

This represents an increase from the 2007 market value of US$7.9bn and the estimated 2008 market value of US$11.2bn. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2008 and 2013 is expected to be 40%, BCC says.

The market analysis report gives the top ten spenders by state in the US as Texas, California, Iowa, Minnesota, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, New York, Kansas and Illinois.

Texas, which ranks as number one, had an expenditure exceeding US$2.4bn in 2007 and an estimated US$3bn in 2008. BCC says this could continue to grow to reach US$15.2bn in 2013.

Colorado spent US$1.2bn on wind turbines in 2007, but has not recorded any installations for 2008. The state is projected to install around US$3.7bn of wind turbines in 2013. California is expected to spend more than US$676 million on turbines in 2008, and could reach US$17.1bn in 2013.

Iowa is estimated to exceed US$1.3 billion in 2008 and spend more than US$3.1bn in 2013. Minnesota spent US$607m in 2007, which may decrease to US$142m in 2008. However, 2013 levels are expected to reach US$2.8bn.

The State of Washington spent over US$500m in 2007, but is expected to drop to half of that in 2008 before increasing to US$2.2bn in 2013.
