Along with corporate case studies, this event offers the
very latest updates on regional, national and international climate
policy developments affecting business. Right now
Washington State's Department of Ecology is finalizing preparation
of GHG-reporting requirements for companies in
Washington State. What's important about these rules is that they
are likely to form the basis for the EPA's national GHG reporting
standards expected this fall. This June 10-11, we're going to find
out what businesses need to know about these mandatory GHG reporting
standards and how to create sustainability plans that align with
these regulations. Representatives from LaFarge and
Boeing will share their approach to building
sustainability strategies that anticipate these regulatory
developments.
In our latest
ASA blog, Alex Schay of Carbon Solutions Northwest
discussed how mandatory GHG reporting on a national and
regional level will change sustainability planning for US
businesses. “Companies must set aside time and money to prepare, and
in some cases, verify their GHG inventories in preparation for
mandatory GHG reporting. Because they will now be reporting these
emissions, companies will begin to see their GHG emissions as a
potential liability under a future mandatory cap-and-trade regime.”
Schay suggests that corporate management should now install
accounting systems for carbon in preparation for cap-and-trade.
Schay has just joined the
Action for a Sustainable America - Seattle program. He
will be presenting on the impact of regional and national GHG
reporting requirements on business. Visit the
ASA blog to read the full interview.
Action for a Sustainable America is an excellent
