Efficient biomass use: USA learns from Austria

In the USA, interest in renewable energy sources is growing. The US government is betting on the use of biomass, and Austria has been a model leader in this area. According to calculations, the USA could renewably produce about 370 million tons of wood for energy a year. That would be the equivalent of 130 million tons of oil, and exceed the entire strategic oil reserves of the USA. For that reason, American scientists and policy makers came to Austria a few months ago to inform themselves of the uses and advantages of modern wood burning technology, and then afterwards published their conclusions for implementing the technology in the USA in an article in the magazine “Science”. In the article, the authors look at the example of the more than 1,000 biomass local heat plants in Austria that provide reliable heat to over 100,000 homes via a local heating grid. In a European comparison, Austria takes a leading position in the use of biomass. That is why REECO, trade fair and conference organizer already active in Germany and in the south-central Europe region, is now starting up in Austria. From November 26th-28th, 2009, RENEXPO® Austria, International Trade Fair for Renewable Energy with its main theme of bioenergy and passive houses is celebrating its premiere in the Messezentrum Salzburg
