Team forms to boost sustainable operations at
hospitals
April 15
HealthTrust Purchasing Group and Ascent Healthcare Solutions will team
with Practice Greenhealth to encourage sustainable operations at hospitals
and other healthcare facilities.
It is a first-of-its-kind partnership, said Bob Jarboe, executive director
of Practice Greenhealth. The primary focus will be on reprocessing and
remanufacturing single-use medical devices to reduce healthcare facility
waste. About 2% of medical devices nationwide are suitable for reprocessing,
according to Practice Greenhealth. But many clinicians dispose of those
devices after using them once, unaware that reprocessing is an option.
"This partnership is the first to specifically target clinicians and
practitioners to help educate them on the actions they can take to help
their institutionīs sustainability effort," Jarboe said.
Practice Greenhealth, HealthTrust and Ascent will host webinars and provide
educational materials to identify reprocessing opportunities approved by the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
