Wal-Mart challenges schools to make Earth a greener place
- Contest showcases nominated schools

In celebration of Earth Day, Show Low Wal-Mart is announcing its participation in the chain's "Earth Day, Every Day" School Challenge, a program to recognize schools and student bodies across the nation that are taking active strides to create a greener, healthier planet.

As part of the challenge, entrants will be asked to submit a 200-word description on behalf of the nominated school at www.earthdayeverydaychallenge.com.
The essay should showcase efforts the school has made that contribute to making the world a greener place, such as instituting recycling practices or more energy efficient measures.
All entrants must be at least 18 years of age and can include school officials, teachers, parents or other adults that can represent the school if selected as one of 20 contest finalists.
The top 20 finalists will be chosen by independent judges and will receive a $500 Wal-Mart gift card to assist in the school's continuation of earth-friendly activities.
Schools will then be invited to submit a video showcasing earth-friendly practices for the chance to compete to win a $20,000 grant to further green initiatives.
All Americans, including the 200 million customers who shop at Wal-Mart, will have the chance to vote for the school doing the most to create a greener, healthier planet from June 8 through June 19.
Entries will be accepted through May 1. For more information regarding the Wal-Mart "Earth Day, Every Day" School Challenge, please visit www.earthdayeverydaychallenge.com .
