The Hill Wind Funding Bills Move Closer to Passage The Senate approved a bill that provides the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) wind program with $85 million—$10 million more than the amount requested by President Obama in his FY 2010 budget. Both the full House and Senate have now approved spending bills for DOE, including wind energy research and development (R&D). The House bill, which passed earlier this year, includes $70 million for wind R&D. Meanwhile, the House Science and Technology Committee this week also passed the Wind Energy Research and Development Act (H.R. 3165), which would authorize $200 million to improve the efficiency, reliability, and capacity of both large- and small-scale wind turbines.
