Ct Scans Linked To Cancer

The risk of cancer associated with popular CT scans appears to be greater than previously believed, according to two new studies published Monday. The findings support caution against the overuse of CT scans and other medical technologies that use radiation.

The studies also bolstered the rationale behind controversial new breast-cancer screening guidelines, which pushed back the recommended age for annual mammograms to 50 from 40. Mammograms also use radiation, but in smaller doses.

Analyzed data from several databases estimated that 29,000 future cancers could be related to CT scans received in 2007 alone!

Dupont Plant Causing Cancer Cluster

A former factory owned by chemical giant DuPont has contaminated the groundwater under a neighborhood in Pompton Lakes, NJ, and a disproportionately high number of people in the neighborhood are developing cancer.

Resident Tim Carroll says he didn't need a state health department study to confirm that his Pompton Lakes neighborhood is a cancer cluster. "My wife died of lung cancer in June, my stepson died of throat cancer, my neighbor across the street has it, everybody is dying around here. I've never seen anyplace like this."

People Who Look Young For Their Age Tend To Live Longer

Some of you may remember a Billy Crystal skit when he was on SNL. He dressed up like Fernando Lamas and in a heavy accent would say " You Look Mahvelous." As well as "It's not how you feel it's how you look." Well it turns out he was right.

A study published today reports that people who look young for their age enjoy a longer life than those who look older than their years. The study concluded that perceived age based on facial photographs is a strong bio marker of ageing. It predicts survival among people aged 70 years and over and correlates with important functional and molecular age related characteristics.
