Iran's power network experienced gigantic growth

Iran's Minister of Energy Parviz Fattah said the capacity of the
country's installed power network expanded by more than seven times in the
past three decades after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.
The minister said the nationwide network's capacity stood at about 7,024 MW
in 1978 when the victory of the Revolution took place while the figure was
49,517 MW in 2008 which showed a growth of 42,493 MW.
Fattah also highlighted the remarkable growth in the capacity of country's
installed power network in the past three years since the inauguration of
the cabinet of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
He said while the average growth rate of the power network from the victory
of the Revolution to in 2008 was about 7 %, the figure was registered as 11
% in the past three years.
Pointing to his ministry's projects in power-generating sector, he said a
total of 27 power plants, with a capacity of generating 19,336 MW, are
programmed to become operational or enter construction phases in one year's
time by private sector contractors.
The minister also said 24 units of thermal power plants, expected to produce
3,838 MW, were also planned to be implemented during the in 2010 of which 6
units have already joined the power network.
