Senators urge federal action on greenhouse gas
registry
Feb. 10
The heads of two Senate panels overseeing environmental issues have
written a letter to the U.S. EPA and White House officials urging swift
federal action on establishing an economywide greenhouse gas registry.
If the Obama administration requires businesses to track and report their
greenhouse gas emissions, it could be an essential first step toward capping
those emissions, according to the letter writers.
U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif, and Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., took the
lead in writing the letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and Peter
Orszag, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.
Feinstein chairs the Senate Interior and Environment Appropriations
Subcommittee, and Boxer chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works
Committee.
Sens. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, also signed the
letter.
