US President Barack Obama told a joint session of Congress Tuesday night
that the country's survival hinges on finding new sources of energy, including
a range of renewable power.
"The fact is, our economy did not fall into decline overnight," Obama
said in his address. "We have known for decades that our survival depends on
finding new sources of energy. Yet we import more oil today than ever before."
Obama signed into law last week a $787 billion economic stimulus bill
which includes approximately $43 billion devoted to doubling renewable power
production across the US over the next three years.
