A Boulder, Colo., company plans to unveil what it believes is the first
commercially available compostable hot cup lid in North America.
Eco-Products Inc. will debut the lid, made from a NatureWorks LLC
biopolymer, in April. The lid can be paired with biodegradable hot cops, for
things like coffee, to create fully compostable hot cup and lid system.
Eco-Products has submitted the lid to the Biodegradable Products Institute
for certification. The lid is stable up to 220 degrees Fahrenheit and
biodegrades at a commercial compost facility in 90 to 120 days.
