According to a new report "Synthesis and Assessment Product 3.4: Abrupt Climate Change" led by the U.S. Geological Survey, in light of recent ice sheet melting, global sea levels could rise as much as 4 feet by 2100. The report also found that the drought which began in the North American Southwest about 6 years ago could be the leading edge of a new climate regime for a wider region. It is very likely that the northward flow of warm water in the upper layers of the Atlantic Ocean will decrease by approximately 25-30 percent but it is very unlikely that this circulation will collapse. There is unlikely to be an abrupt release of methane to the atmosphere from deposits in the earth but it is very likely that the pace of methane emissions will increase.
