EPA extends deadline for TVA Kingston cleanup grant

July 23

The U.S. EPA has extended the deadline for community groups to apply for a technical assistance plan program grant of as much as $50,000 in connection with cleanup activities at the Tennessee Valley Authority Kingston site in Roane County, Tenn.

The agency will accept letters of interest until July 31.

The TVA will provide the grant to a single qualified community group near the site. The grant will allow the community group to hire a technical advisor who can interpret EPA reports and assist the community in providing input on clean up plans.

A major coal ash spill occurred at the site in December 2008.

EPA has received a LOI from the Tennessee Coal Ash Survivors Network to apply for the TAP grant. Groups can either contact the network to join in their effort to obtain the funding or file a separate request with the EPA by the July 31 deadline.
