A new energy future is fast approaching. In the
U.S., comprehensive climate legislation that will greatly increase the
demand for renewable biomass energy is moving through Congress. The Biomass
Thermal Energy Council was founded to ensure that the most energy-efficient
use of biomass, thermal energy, had a voice in these discussions in
Washington. Organizations can join BTEC as Founding Members until July 8.
In the months since forming in January, BTEC has grown into a community
of biomass fuel producers, appliance manufacturers, nonprofits,
universities, and many other members who are committed to advancing the
use of biomass for thermal energy. BTEC has demonstrated success and grown
membership, thereby creating an important foundation for an aggressive
portfolio of activities.
Members of the Biomass Thermal Energy Council are on the front line of
creating a powerful and influential biomass thermal industry. They are
involved in policy initiatives including, but not limited to:
- Production tax credits for renewable thermal energy
- Investment tax credits for the installation of high-efficiency
biomass heating systems
- Thermal renewable energy credits under a National Renewable
Electricity Standard (RES)
- The development of a Renewable Thermal Standard, comparable to the
RES and the Renewable Fuels Standard
BTEC
has been directly involved in a number of bills introduced in Congress,
including the American Renewable Biomass Heating Act (H.R. 2080), the
Renewable Energy Alternative Production Act (S. 1094), and the Biomass
Energy Efficiency Incentives Amendment to the Senate Energy Bill.
A full list of policy activities can be found here.
In addition to BTEC’s legislative activities, members will be a part of a
community, dedicated to develop a sustainable, growing biomass thermal
industry. Through membership, any organization's voice, however important
and strong on its own, will be greatly amplified.
