NYMEX crude 62 cents higher as dollar relinquishes gains

New York (Platts)--29Jun2009

NYMEX August crude futures on CME's Globex system were 62 cents higher
Monday at $69.78/barrel after the US dollar relinquished overnight gains.

The US Dollar Index on ICE was down 4 points at 79.838, just shy of the
inter-session low of 79.82 after being up as much as much as 46 points.

Both the dollar and S&P 500 futures were in sideways consolidation
mode ahead of a heavy schedule of economic releases during a US
holiday-shortened week.

"The chief characteristic of the price action at the moment in the
foreign exchange market is consolidation," foreign exchange strategists at
Brown Brothers Harriman said in a report. "The approaching half year end sees
portfolio adjustments, and this could impact foreign exchange prices."

Ongoing violence in Nigeria resulted in Shell shutting in additional
production following an attack on a Forcados platform prevented any downswing
in prices despite technically weak chart pictures.

August Brent on ICE was 49 cents higher at $69.41/barrel.
