Plastics recycling on the rise in Canada, report says

June 29

Canadians have more access to recycle plastics today than just four years ago, according to a report from the Environment and Plastics Industry Council.

Access to all types of consumer plastic recycling has improved, including film and bags, to which 44% of Canadians had access in 2005 and 53% now have access. Those figures do not include retail and grocery store take-back programs. Some 98% can conveniently recycle polyethylene terephthalate beverage containers, the same as in 2005. Non-beverage PET recycling access jumped from 77% in 2005 to 91% in 2009, according to the report, which is available at www.cpia.ca.

High-density polyethylene milk container recycling is available to 96% of Canadians, compared with 88% in 2005.
